Do Wrinkles Blur the Perception of Your Outward Emotions?
A study coming out of Penn State University has found that people have a harder time distinguishing the real emotions of those who have facial wrinkles. In the study, 64 participants were told to show neutral emotions on their faces; those expressions were then examined by other people. The older adults with facial wrinkles were perceived to look angry or sad, even though they were displaying the same type of neutral emotion as the younger participants.
This phenomenon may be due to the fact that certain wrinkles, lines and creases can cause a person to look like they are frowning. Sagging facial skin may also play a role in making people look tired and gloomy, even if they aren’t.
Facial rejuvenation in Chicago continues to increase in popularity because people want to put their “best face” forward and look more alert and lively. There are a number of different procedures available to achieve a younger-looking face in Chicago, including:
- BOTOX® injections to soften the frown lines between the eyebrows and forehead lines
- Dermal filler injections to fill in and smooth wrinkles, creases and sunken cheeks
