Beauty Sleep or Wrinkle Sleep?

Sleep_and_Wrinkles.jpgAre you a stomach sleeper? Side sleeper? Back sleeper?

The way you sleep may be contributing to lines and wrinkles on your face.

When you rest the side of your face on your pillow night after night, you are smashing your face. This isn’t such a big deal when you are young and your skin is more elastic and full of collagen. However, as you age, your compressed skin won’t bounce back as easily…and those facial lines remain etched on your cheeks, chin or brow.

Prevent Wrinkles at Night

The best way to avoid facial compression and the resulting pillow lines is by sleeping on your back. We know your concerns; sleeping on your back can:

  • Be uncomfortable
  • Lead to snoring
  • Worsen acid reflux
  • Induce back pain

Here are some tips to help you make the transition to back sleeping, so you can restore your beauty sleep:

  • Sleep with a pillow placed comfortably under your knees. This may help alleviate back discomfort.
  • Train yourself to back sleep by practicing for 10 minutes every day. Your body will eventually become used to the position.
  • Try out different pillows, such as memory foam, to make your sleep more comfortable.

If sleep has already caused wrinkles to appear on your face, there are cosmetic procedures that you can combine with back sleeping to help you look younger, such as Chicago BOTOX,  dermal fillers, and more.
