What is Latisse and is it right for me?
If you’ve been hearing a lot about Latisse lately, you’re not alone. At Doctors for Visual Freedom in Chicago, we are often asked about Latisse. What is Latisse and what is it for?
Latisse is just rebranded Lumigan, which is a glaucoma drop, which doctors (and patients) discovered has lash growth as a side effect. Technically, Latisse can be prescribed by any physician, which is why you might see it being offered by your family doctor or even your dentist. Ophthalmologists and optometrists, however, have years of experience working with Lumigan (and therefore Latisse) and are the best doctors for prescribing this medication.
Latisse does have some precautions and can have some side effects. Its use may cause increased brown iris pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent. While very infrequent, increased iris pigmentation has occurred when LATISSE® solution was administered. Latisse is also not recommended in patients with eye pressure problems without close observation by your physician.
During your next visit here at Doctors for Visual Freedom in Chicago, ask us about Latisse and we’ll be glad to discuss the pros and cons of this popular product.
