PRK Healing Times

PRK_healing_times.jpgThe PRK procedure requires more healing time than LASIK.  Immediately following the procedure, your vision should be very good.  However, within an hour after surgery your eyes will begin to feel irritated and your vision will become blurry.  It may feel gritty or like there is sand in your eyes.  The discomfort can be helped with eye drops that help numb the eyes.

The blurriness will continue over the next several days as the surface of the cornea heals.  Typically, the cornea heals in under a week.  Some discomfort may continue to occur during this time; drops and Tylenol will help with that.

Your vision should be stabilized within 3-6 months following your PRK surgery.  It is important to protect the eyes from harmful UV rays by wearing sunglasses during the six months following surgery.  To learn more about PRK and if it could be for you, contact Doctors for Visual Freedom in Chicago today.
