Contact Lenses and Pink Eye
If you have pink eye, can you still wear contact lenses? Here at Doctors for Visual Freedom in Chicago, we get asked that frequently when one of our patients is diagnosed with pink eye.
Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, the thin transparent layer of tissue that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye. It is a common eye disease, especially in children and a child with pink eye is often not allowed at school until it is cured.
If you wear disposable contact lenses, it may be advisable to throw out the pair of contact lenses you are currently wearing. If your lenses aren’t disposable, you’ll want to do a thorough job of disinfecting. If you think you may have pink eye, contact Doctors for Visual Freedom in Chicago at 312-291-9680 or doctorsforvisualfreedom.com to schedule an eye exam.
