Got Something In Your Eye? See Your Doctor
It happens to most of us at some time or another. We get poked in the eye by something. Or a nasty piece of dirt, sand or a foreign object scratches our eye. Instinct, pain and itch tells us to rub it. But that might be the worst thing to do, according to the staff at Doctors for Visual Freedom in Chicago. Before rubbing your eye, try this:
- Blink your eye repeatedly several times.
- Pull your upper eyelid gently over the lower eyelid.
- Gently rinse your eye out with a sterile saline solution or clean water. Don’t rub the eye while rinsing it. Try blinking some more.
Don’t attempt to remove anything that is on the cornea. Only an eye professional or physician should do this.
If you still feel like something is caught in your eye, go to the emergency room or see your eye care professional, who can safely remove it.
