Retinoscopy Procedure During Eye Exam

Posted by administration on January 17, 2016

Retinoscopy.jpgDuring your eye exam, you may go through a series of tests and wonder what they all are for.  One of the tests, often performed early in the exam, uses a device called a retinoscope.  With this, the doctors at Doctors for Visual Freedom in Chicago can see the light reflexes of your pupil.

During a retinoscopy (a painless procedure), your eye care professional will use the retinoscope to project a streak of light into your pupil.  Measurements are taken and your doctor can determine your degree of myopia, emmetropia or hyperopia.  Retinoscopy provides the ability to obtain an objective measure of a patient’s eyes and tells you if your vision is 20/20.
