What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a medication that is injected in to muscles so that wrinkles on the face disappear. Typically, Botox is used to decrease or eliminate the frown lines between the eye brows, to reduce forehead wrinkles, and crows feet that occur with smiling. Botox can also be used to decrease under arm sweating, reduce the fine lines above the upper lip most prominent in smokers and in the reduction of headaches.
Botox works by blocking nerve fibers that feed the injected muscles. Those muscles are those which cause those annoying wrinkles between the brows, on the forehead and around the eyes.
At some locations Botox may be administered by a nurse or an esthetician who is only loosely supervised by a physician. At Doctors For Visual Freedom, only Dr. Golden, a board certified physician administers all treatments. The key to Botox is not to cause an excessive reaction so that a natural appearance is maintained.

Regular treatments with Botox can help you to maintain your more youthful appearance. Dr. Golden generally suggests injections every three months the first year, every four months the second year and then the frequency is much less.
